I got word today that the Fathers Day Breakfast run by Dads in Education will be back again this year. This will be the 4th year this event has been run and it gets bigger each year. From its first year localised to the NSW Central Coast region this year it will encompass the whole of New South Wales. Just to be clear on the scale of the event that involves over 400 000 primary school students and their dads! Bacon and egg roles all round.

I found my dog trying to escape through the window today. A couple of the neighbourhood kids were taking their dog for a walk and they came to the front door to see if my son wanted to join them. He was too buy watching his TV shows after a hard day at school but Buddy was keen.

I got a real shock a couple of days ago when I walked into the local supermarket and saw Santa, enthroned and resplendent in his seasonal finery, seated amidst assorted confectionery and twinkling decorations. But it’s October! Early October! Surely he has better things to do than lounge around public areas taunting us with his promise of good cheer and merriment?

I’ve been having a spot of bother recently which has prompted this article. For several years now I have been sending my books out to a bookkeeping service. The reason for this is that I am very bad at record keeping and I have a tendency to leave mundane chores like this to the last minute preferring instead to collect everything into a manilla folder and store it, hidden in the bottom drawer of the filling cabinet, along with those letters from insurance companies explaining my responsibilities with respect to work place safety and superannuation contributions.
The system has worked extremely well up until now. Every three months I dust of the folder and deliver it to the bookkeeper before promptly forgetting all about it for another three months. Using this method I have managed to State my quarterly Business Activity on time, managed to pay my installments to the ATO within a reasonable time and I have had my end of year accounts prepared for the accountant before my wife needed to give me that well practiced look of exasperation.
